sumYouTube Privacy Policy

This policy describes how the sumYouTube Chrome extension ("the Extension") handles information. The Extension has no backend server of its own.

What the Extension does

The Extension helps you summarize the YouTube video you are watching and ask questions about it using Google Gemini and your own API key.

Data stored on your device

The Extension stores your Gemini API key and model choice in Chrome storage on your browser. This data stays on your device (and in your Chrome sync account if Chrome Sync is enabled). The developer does not receive it.

Data sent when you use Ask AI

When you click Ask AI or send a question, the Extension sends the following to Google Gemini over HTTPS:

• Your Gemini API key
• The current video URL, title, and channel name
• Available captions or transcript for that video
• The question or prompt you typed
• Recent messages in that Ask AI chat

Google handles that data under Google's Gemini / Google AI Studio terms and privacy policy. The Extension publisher does not operate a server that collects this data.

Data we do not collect

• Name, email, or other identity information
• Health or payment information
• Location data
• A history of websites you visit
• Keystrokes, mouse position, or other activity logs

The Extension only reads the current YouTube watch page as needed to provide the summary and answers.

Sharing and selling

The Extension does not sell user data. It does not use data for advertising. The only third party that receives data is Google, when you choose to send a request to Gemini.

Your choices

• Do not save an API key if you do not want to use Gemini.
• Remove the API key in the extension popup at any time.
• Uninstall the Extension to remove local settings.
